Background music providers, and how to compare them
More than twenty business music services supply background music to shops, hospitality venues and practices in the Netherlands. Their quotes are hard to compare, because they include and exclude different things. With almost all of them, a second bill from Buma/Stemra and Sena comes on top. Not with RadioMatic, because the music is made with AI. Below is where the difference sits and who supplies it.

Does the amount include the Buma/Stemra and Sena levies?

Is the price per location or per account?

How long are you tied in?
With RadioMatic you first try it free for 14 days. If you pay monthly, you can cancel monthly.Beyond that, annual contracts with automatic renewal are common in this market. Ask about the notice period before you sign.
Can you steer each site separately?
With RadioMatic, yes. Each location gets its own mood, its own promotions and its own opening hours.Ask whether each site can have its own mood and its own offers, or whether every branch hears the same playlist.
Why there are two bills, except with RadioMatic
The first question above is the important one, and most business owners only find out when the letter arrives. Anyone playing music by human authors in a business space pays twice.
Once to the provider for the subscription. And once to Buma/Stemra and Sena for the rights, because that music has a composer, a lyricist, a performing artist and a record label behind it. That second bill is separate from your provider and lands directly with you.
This is not a criticism of those providers. It is how the system works, and they cannot change it. But it does explain how a quote of fifty euros a month can turn out to be double that in practice.

This is the version on the Buma/Stemra website in September 2026, with 21 parties. The last six arrange their rights through SABAM in Brussels. Mood Media is not on it, although it is active in the Netherlands. We do not describe or rank them, because we do not have that knowledge.
