Background music for your beauty salon, without Buma and Sena
If you are looking for music for your beauty salon, RadioMatic gives you a station of its own with a mood of its own for each space, calm in the treatment room and a little livelier at reception. Because the music is generated entirely by AI, no payment is due to Buma/Stemra and Sena.
You easily pay
€ 488
a year to Buma/Stemra and Sena
If you play music in your business, this bill is compulsory. The amount is the base rate for the worked example below, and your music subscription comes on top of it.
Work out what you pay nowWith RadioMatic you pay
€ 29.99
per location per month, billed yearly
= € 360 a year, everything included
The Starter plan, excluding VAT. No payment is due to Buma/Stemra or Sena, so this is the whole amount. There is a free plan as well.
Fourteen days free to try. Monthly billing is available and costs 20% more, and only then can you cancel monthly. Once your application is approved, usually within five working days, your station is live in ten minutes.
What else you get
In a beauty salon the client lies still, with her eyes closed, sometimes for an hour. That is exactly when a playlist gives itself away. Someone who comes three times a year may hear nothing out of the ordinary. Someone who comes every three weeks recognises the order. With RadioMatic the music is generated and not pulled from a fixed list. The style you set stays, the tracks change. You do not have to put anything together and you do not have to refresh anything.
At reception you can let something be heard. The DJ moments name your salon and play what you type in. For instance that a new treatment has been added, that you work with gift vouchers or that you are open longer in December. A client who is waiting has nothing else to do for a moment, so a message like that lands better than a poster next to the mirror. In the treatment room you switch off everything that speaks and keep the music alone. Whether a news round plays on the hour is also something you choose per space.
Advertising from others never comes in between, so the salon in the next street is not advertising in your treatment room. If you work from several locations, or have a practice at home alongside your salon, you run both from a single dashboard. Each location keeps its own mood.
What does music in your beauty salon cost? You pay per member of staff
At Buma/Stemra a beauty salon does not fall under the ordinary background music table. There is a tariff of its own for personal care, which also covers pedicure, massage and nail care. Under it you pay per member of staff in the treatment space and not per square metre. So a small treatment room with three specialists costs more than a spacious salon with one. The definition also names a practice at home in so many words. If you work from home and receive clients there, you fall under it just as much, with no shop window on the street.
Sena also charges per member of staff, but draws the lines in a different place. You will want to know that before you take someone on. Buma draws a line straight after the second member of staff, Sena only much further along the scale. With three people you are therefore just over the first line at Buma and still well inside the first bracket at Sena. The third member of staff doubles your Buma bill and leaves the Sena one where it is. If music plays in several spaces within your building, both organisations add your staff together. So they do not charge per space.
With RadioMatic no payment is due to Buma/Stemra or Sena, because the music is generated entirely by AI and there are therefore no rights holders. Buma/Stemra itself states that works made entirely by AI without a human creative contribution do not qualify for copyright or payment. The same applies to Sena. The law requires a phonogram released for commercial purposes, and on that ground Sena lost in court in 2025. The full reasoning is in our legal memorandum.

The Buma scale runs up to 2 staff, then up to 10 and up to 25. The Sena scale runs up to 5, 10 and 25. The wording “zowel in publiekstoegankelijke bedrijfsruimtes als in een praktijk aan huis” (both in business premises open to the public and in a practice at home) appears in the definitions of BUM.141. Article 8 of that same text provides that numbers of staff are added together where music plays in different spaces within one building. Amounts per year and base tariff, Buma/Stemra excluding VAT, Sena exempt from VAT and here including the RAAP-PPI surcharge of 26.6%. Which music suits the treatment room, and which suits reception?
In the treatment room the music has to stay under the conversation. The client is lying on a treatment bed, often wearing less than she finds comfortable. There is talk about skin and complaints, and sometimes about things that are not separate from that. What works there is soft music without sudden jumps in volume and without vocals that ask to be listened to. You also want to avoid silences, because then the conversation from the room next door suddenly becomes clearly audible. In a salon with thin walls that is a practical point.
At reception and at the desk it can be a little more. That is where people pay, book and wait. An even sound is more pleasant there than a silence in which everyone overhears each other’s appointment. This is also the place for a spoken announcement, because the client who is waiting is the only person in your salon with time for it. With RadioMatic you set per space what plays and whether a voice is heard at all.
What further sets a beauty salon apart from a shop is the length of the visit. A treatment lasts sixty or ninety minutes in one go. In that time you can hear that a list of two hundred tracks is a list, certainly if you come back every three weeks. A station that gets new music every day in the same style keeps the mood the same, without the order becoming recognisable.
It works on the equipment already in place
You do not have to buy anything. RadioMatic is a stream and it plays on what is already there. On a Sonos, through Chromecast, in the browser on the computer at the desk, or through line-in on an amplifier or PA system. If there is a simple speaker on a small amplifier in your treatment room, that is enough. If a ceiling system from a previous supplier is still hanging there, it stays where it is and only what comes out of it changes.
Playing something different in each space costs nothing extra with us. After your application is approved, usually within five working days, your station is live in ten minutes. The first fourteen days are free to try.
What you can choose from today
Look for music for your beauty salon and you find Synerplay with a page of its own for salons, and Backsound with a wellness page that names treatment rooms and relaxation spaces. Tunify offers a package that is the same for every sector.
And with all three you are playing music by human creators. That means two extra bills, from Buma/Stemra and from Sena. Tunify says itself that for commercial use you need a public performance licence of your own from your copyright organisation. What that costs is set out above.
With RadioMatic the treatment room gets soft music with no voice and no silences in which you catch the conversation from the room next door. At reception the client who is waiting hears something livelier, with your own message about a new treatment or your gift vouchers. If you also work from a practice at home, you run both places from one dashboard.
Why RadioMatic is something other than a playlist or the radio
A business owner who wants music on the premises usually picks from three things. A playlist from a streaming service, an ordinary radio station, or a royalty-free music package. This is where they differ.
| Playlist | Ordinary radio | Royalty-free | RadioMatic | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| New music | Fixed list | Yes, but not your choice | Limited catalogue | New every day |
| Music that is yours alone | No | No | No | Yes, your own hits |
| Fits the time of day | Switch it yourself | No | Switch it yourself | Automatic |

| Your own offers | No | Only if you buy advertising | No | Yes, with no studio |
| Local news and weather | No | Yes, the station’s | No | Yes, your town, your choice of topics |
| Other people’s adverts | No | Yes | No | No |

New music every day
The station keeps getting new tracks in the same style, because the music is generated rather than drawn from a fixed list. A track that lands well with your audience comes round more often, and then it is your hit. It was made for your station and plays nowhere else.
It names your business
Between the tracks, DJ voices announce what is going on at your place. Your offer, your opening hours, this week’s deal. That used to need a studio and a voice actor.
It moves with the day
The morning, the rush and the last hour each call for something different. That is set per part of the day and happens by itself, with nobody behind the counter picking a new list.
Local news if you want it
A short bulletin on the hour about your own town, with the weather and the traffic alongside. You choose which subjects you want, or you switch it off entirely.
No one else’s advertising
On an ordinary station the business down the road advertises in between your tracks. With us, nothing comes in between that is not yours.
Every location from one screen
Each site keeps its own mood, its own promotions and its own opening hours, and you run them all from the same place.
A playlist is worn out within two weeks, and on an ordinary station the business down the road advertises in between your tracks. With us the station is yours. Your style, your announcements, and the tracks that land with your audience come round more often.
