Background music for your nail studio, without Buma and Sena
If you are looking for music for your nail studio, RadioMatic gives you a station of its own that gets new music every day in the style you pick. Because the music is generated entirely by AI, no payment is due to Buma/Stemra and Sena.
You easily pay
€ 346
a year to Buma/Stemra and Sena
If you play music in your business, this bill is compulsory. The amount is the base rate for the worked example below, and your music subscription comes on top of it.

What else you get
A nail studio is often small, and in a small space you hear everything. If the playlist starts again from the first track at three o’clock, it stands out at once, to the client across from you and to you. With RadioMatic the music is generated and not played from a list. You pick a style and it stays, while the tracks are different every day. You do not have to do anything else about it.
Between the tracks the DJ moments name your studio and play what you type in. For instance that you now do pedicures as well, that new colours have come in or that clients can book online. You do not need a studio or a recorded voice track for that. Want music only for an hour, then you switch the voices off. On the hour a short news round can follow with what is happening in your town. A treatment takes a long time, so people often carry on talking about it at the table.
Advertising from others never comes in between, so you hear no spots from the studio down the road and no three-minute commercial break. If you have a second location, you run both from a single dashboard, with a mood of its own for each site.
What does music in your nail studio cost? You pay per member of staff, however small your studio
At Buma/Stemra a nail studio does not fall under the ordinary background music table. There is a tariff of its own for personal care, which names nail care in so many words. Under it you pay per member of staff in the treatment space and not per square metre. So how big your studio is makes no difference to the bill. On mijnlicentie.nl this sector is not asked about floor area at all. You are asked about your number of staff, the start date and where your music comes from.
Sena also charges per member of staff, but starts with a much wider first bracket. At Buma the first bracket is for a studio with one or two people. At Sena it runs all the way up to five. With two staff you therefore pay Sena exactly the same as with five, and only the sixth person makes that amount move. At Buma it goes wrong sooner, because the amount doubles as soon as a third member of staff arrives. If music plays in several spaces within your building, your staff are added together and not counted per space.
With RadioMatic no payment is due to Buma/Stemra or Sena, because the music is generated entirely by AI and there are therefore no rights holders. Buma/Stemra itself states that works made entirely by AI without a human creative contribution do not qualify for copyright or payment. The same applies to Sena. The law requires a phonogram released for commercial purposes, and on that ground Sena lost in court in 2025. The full reasoning is in our legal memorandum.

The Buma scale runs up to 2 staff, then up to 10 and up to 25. The Sena scale runs up to 5, 10 and 25. Nail care is named in the definition of the treatment and practice space in BUM.141. Article 8 of that same text provides that numbers of staff are added together where music plays in different spaces within one building. Music for two people at one table, an hour and a half long
In a nail studio the client sits right across from you, at a table sixty centimetres wide. That is something else from a shop where someone walks past. There is talk, or there is not, and both have to be possible. Music that runs on evenly makes the silences less awkward. Without sharp peaks the conversation stays at normal volume. Tracks everyone knows the words to pull the attention towards themselves, and at a table like that you want the opposite.
There is a sound side to it as well. The extraction is running, the drill makes a high constant tone and with gel polish the lamp comes on top of that. Those sounds sit in a narrow frequency band, and the music has to come through them without you turning it up all the time. What helps is a style with some body in the low mid and without a thin, shrill top end, because that fights with the drill.
A treatment easily takes an hour and a half, and regular clients come back every three or four weeks. Every playlist runs aground on that combination, because the order becomes recognisable and stays that way. RadioMatic’s music is generated, so the style is fixed and the tracks are not. Want something calmer in the morning than on a Saturday afternoon, then you set that per part of the day and it carries on by itself.
One speaker is enough to start with
You do not have to buy anything. RadioMatic is a stream and it plays on what you already have. A Sonos, a Chromecast, a browser on the tablet or laptop at the desk, or a small amplifier with a line-in that you connect a phone to. If a ceiling system from a previous supplier is still there, it simply stays where it is, because only the source changes.
If you have a separate pedicure corner or a second space, you can have something else playing there and run both from the same dashboard. With two locations each studio keeps its own mood under one account. After your application is approved, usually within five working days, your station is live in ten minutes. The first fourteen days are free to try.
What you can choose from today
Look for music for your nail studio and you will not find a provider with a page of its own for your trade. What there is, is the salon page from Synerplay. Backsound and Tunify offer a package that is the same for every sector.
And with all three you are playing music by human creators. That means two extra bills, from Buma/Stemra and from Sena. Tunify says itself that for commercial use you need a public performance licence of your own from your copyright organisation. What that costs is set out above.
With RadioMatic your regular client, who sits across from you for an hour and a half every three weeks, never hears the same order twice. You pick the style yourself, for instance with some body in the low mid and no shrill top end next to the drill, and in the morning it turns calmer by itself than on a Saturday afternoon. If you have a separate pedicure corner, it gets a mood of its own.
Why RadioMatic is something other than a playlist or the radio
A business owner who wants music on the premises usually picks from three things. A playlist from a streaming service, an ordinary radio station, or a royalty-free music package. This is where they differ.
| Playlist | Ordinary radio | Royalty-free | RadioMatic | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| New music | Fixed list | Yes, but not your choice | Limited catalogue | New every day |
| Music that is yours alone | No | No | No | Yes, your own hits |
| Fits the time of day | Switch it yourself | No | Switch it yourself | Automatic |
| Names your business | No | No | No | Yes |

New music every day
The station keeps getting new tracks in the same style, because the music is generated rather than drawn from a fixed list. A track that lands well with your audience comes round more often, and then it is your hit. It was made for your station and plays nowhere else.
It names your business
Between the tracks, DJ voices announce what is going on at your place. Your offer, your opening hours, this week’s deal. That used to need a studio and a voice actor.
It moves with the day
The morning, the rush and the last hour each call for something different. That is set per part of the day and happens by itself, with nobody behind the counter picking a new list.
Local news if you want it
A short bulletin on the hour about your own town, with the weather and the traffic alongside. You choose which subjects you want, or you switch it off entirely.
No one else’s advertising
On an ordinary station the business down the road advertises in between your tracks. With us, nothing comes in between that is not yours.
Every location from one screen
Each site keeps its own mood, its own promotions and its own opening hours, and you run them all from the same place.
A playlist is worn out within two weeks, and on an ordinary station the business down the road advertises in between your tracks. With us the station is yours. Your style, your announcements, and the tracks that land with your audience come round more often.
