What else you get
In a practice what matters most is often what you do not hear. With us no third-party advertising comes in between the music, not in the waiting room and not in the treatment room. No offer from an insurer, no commercial, no voice selling something to someone waiting for a result. With an ordinary radio station in the waiting room you cannot arrange that.
What you do play is up to you. In the waiting room a short announcement between the tracks often lands better than a note on the desk. For instance that appointments can be moved through the website, or what to bring to a check-up. In the treatment room you switch off everything that speaks and keep only the music. You set that per room, from the same dashboard.
The music is made for your station rather than taken from a shared catalogue. New music keeps arriving in the same style. Your own people notice that most, because they hear it all day. Across several locations each practice keeps its own settings and opening hours under one account.
What does music in your practice cost? Waiting room and treatment rooms separately
If you play music by human creators in a podiatry practice, a midwifery practice, a physiotherapy practice or a GP practice, you get two Sena bills that run separately from each other. You pay for the waiting room on floor area and for the treatment rooms per room. You can see that in the calculator on mijnlicentie.nl itself. Under “Muziek in de wachtruimte” (music in the waiting room) it asks only for square metres. Under “Muziek in de behandelruimte” (music in the treatment room) it asks for square metres and the number of rooms. The Buma/Stemra bill comes on top of that.
For the treatment rooms the Sena table “Medische behandelruimte” (medical treatment room) applies. It comes with one condition. The licence only applies if your professional group is in the BIG register. For a midwife that is clear, because that profession is in the register. For a podiatrist it is different, because that is a protected training title and people who hold it are not in the BIG register. Sena names no profession at all and writes nowhere which table does apply to a podiatrist. We do not know either and we are not going to fill it in here. Ask Sena before you file a declaration, and ask for an answer on paper.
We checked the amount for the example in the calculator on mijnlicentie.nl, and our breakdown matches it to the cent. With RadioMatic that whole amount falls away, because the music is generated entirely by AI and there are therefore no rights holders. Buma/Stemra itself states that works made entirely by AI without a human creative contribution do not qualify for copyright or payment. The same applies to Sena. The law requires a phonogram released for commercial purposes, and on that ground Sena lost in court in 2025. The full reasoning is in our legal memorandum.

A waiting room asks for something different from a treatment room
Waiting room music in a practice has a job that goes beyond atmosphere. In a waiting room someone sits close to the desk. What is discussed there is often medical, and the queue behind the desk does not need to follow it word for word. Even sound at a soft level makes such a conversation harder to make out. That is a simple measure. What works is music without sudden jumps in volume, without lyrics that demand attention and without silences in which a conversation suddenly becomes clearly audible. An ordinary chart playlist does exactly the opposite.
A treatment room is a different situation. There someone lies on a treatment table, often with fewer clothes on than he finds comfortable. He is talking to you about something he tells nobody else. The music belongs underneath that conversation. So softer than in the waiting room, calmer in tempo and without vocals asking to be listened to. When you have to explain something or the patient has to point something out, the music should not get in the way.
That is why our DJ moments and news rounds play only where you want them. In a waiting room a spoken announcement often lands better than a poster on the wall, because people are sitting there waiting anyway. Think of your opening hours, rescheduling an appointment or what to bring to a check-up. In a treatment room you switch off everything that speaks and keep only the music. Third-party advertising never comes between the tracks with us in any case.
It runs on the equipment already in place
You do not have to buy anything. RadioMatic plays on a Sonos, through Chromecast, in a browser on the computer behind the desk, or through line-in on an amplifier or a PA installation already there. If your treatment rooms have a simple speaker on a small amplifier, that is enough. If the waiting room already has a ceiling system from a previous supplier, it stays where it is and only what comes out of it changes.
You can have something different playing in each space, and you arrange that in the same dashboard. With music by human creators that is exactly what costs extra. Buma/Stemra adds the floor areas together as long as the same music from the same source plays in different spaces. If each space plays something different, Buma/Stemra charges per space. Different music in the treatment room than in the waiting room therefore costs money there. With us it is a slider.
What you can choose from today
Look for music for your practice and you find two suppliers that focus on healthcare. Synerplay has a healthcare page and names GP practices, dental practices, physiotherapy and hospitals. You choose from three subscriptions with separate add-ons, a music computer is sold separately, and you can try it for a month without payment details. Zorg & Muziek (care and music) is the healthcare arm of BCM Stream. According to its own site BCM has been supplying music to care and welfare for 45 years, from GPs and hospitals to childcare and disability care. Tariffs are not listed.
With both of them you play music by human creators. That means two extra bills, from Buma/Stemra and from Sena. Synerplay says itself that you arrange those two licences directly with the rights organisations. What that costs is set out above.
